Long Z. Liu | 刘龙珠
Founder
Longzhu Liu
Attorney Longzhu Liu (David Liu) is a renowned Chinese-American trial lawyer, licensed in both California state courts and U.S. federal courts. Known in Southern California’s Chinese community as a “litigation authority,” he has represented clients in numerous high-profile cases involving major corporations such as JPMorgan Chase, Chanel, Alibaba, and China Eastern Airlines. Liu is also the only Chinese-American lawyer among thousands in California to be listed on Wikipedia alongside President Barack Obama as one of 103 notable U.S. attorneys. Raised in a Buddhist family and mentored by his uncle, the revered Master Hsing Yun of Fo Guang Shan, Liu has built a legal career rooted in justice, compassion, and fearless advocacy for those underserved or overlooked by the system.
In addition to his legal achievements, Liu is a political figure and media commentator. In 2023, he ran for California State Assembly (District 49), becoming the first candidate in U.S. history of mainland Chinese origin to reach that stage. His campaign platform focused on combating crime, resisting ideological indoctrination, and opposing reverse discrimination. He is also the founder of the Future Lawyers Academy, the world’s first institution aimed at training Chinese-American youth (ages 12–22) to become future lawyers — and perhaps even future presidents. Through public service, legal advocacy, and education, Liu seeks to empower the next generation of leaders while defending the rights and dignity of the Chinese-American community.
Hanson
Senior Counsel
Hanson
As an orphan and adopted child of a Taiwanese immigrant family, Hanson is conversationally fluent in Taiwanese and Chinese. Equally at home on both sides of the Pacific, Hanson understands difficulties immigrants and non-English speakers face, especially when unaccustomed to the legal and societal landscape of the United States. Hanson believes no client should be kept from justice on account of cultural differences, social stigma, personal history, factors beyond their control, or language barriers.
Hanson's aunt was a published author in Taiwan, his grandfather was a teacher, and his father was a writer and calligrapher. Hanson is the first in his family to enter the legal profession and achieved the highest level of education. Hanson's affinity for language arts was apparent from a young age. Arriving in the United States at 6 years old, he had no knowledge of English.
However, he consistently read more than any of his peers, delving into books pertaining to subjects such as entomology and history, sparking his love for many subjects as well as learning.
Before completing elementary school, Hanson's advanced abilities and rapid, uncommon mastery of English were noticed by several teachers. A placement test showed that by the time he was 10 years old, he was reading and writing at the level of a high school senior or college freshman, resulting in his recommendation for Gifted and Talented Education (G.A.T.E.).
After graduating with high marks from John A. Rowland High School in 2007, Hanson studied entomology, philosophy, and creative writing as an undergraduate at University of California, Riverside. He pursued an academic minor in philosophy and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in creative writing, with a concentration on prose poetry, in 2012. He served as a church missionary who taught English to orphaned children in Taiwan. Hanson studied under noteworthy and distinguished writers including Juan Felipe Herrera (California Poet Laureate from 2012 to
2014), Reza Aslan (religious scholar, commentator, and writer featured in a viral interview on Fox News), and Christopher Buckley (award-winning American poet).
Hanson stepped into law in 2017. He worked in immigration and personal injury law firms throughout his time at Whittier Law School, juggling challenges of law school and responsibilities of a busy work schedule. Hanson quickly absorb knowledge relating to medicine and accident reconstruction crucial for success in personal injury, a fast-paced, challenging specialty involving both law and science. Hanson graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2019, ranked third among the graduating students. During law school, Hanson was on the Dean's List and earned 4 CALI Awards, awards given to the highest scoring students of each class, as well as 2 merit scholarships. He passed the California bar exam of October 2020. The following year, he was admitted to practice in the North, East, South, and Central District Courts of California.
From there, Hanson eventually transitioned to other types of litigation, where he now continues to thrive in motion practice. Hanson's wide-ranging interests, including psychology, philosophy, ancient history, and natural sciences such as entomology, anatomy, mycology, marine biology, and mortuary science combined with a natural affinity for the language arts, allow him to bring a multidisciplinary approach to achieve clients' goals. Hanson's affable demeanor, practicality, breadth of knowledge, legal experience, investigatory skills, and creative problem-solving strategies enable him to contribute significantly to the team at The Liu Law Firm.
